Bible Study- Luke 24: 1-11 Resurrection- He. Is. RISEN!

Empty tomb
Empty tomb

Hello, everyone! Bible N3rd here and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Gospel according to Luke. Today, we’re diving into Luke 24:1-11—the incredible account of the women discovering the empty tomb and proclaiming the risen Jesus.

This passage is not only foundational to Christianity but also one of the most powerful moments in Scripture. It marks the moment when hope is reignited, and the truth of Jesus’s victory over death is revealed for the very first time. As we study these verses, it's clear why the resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith: without it, Christianity would have no foundation. This event is the heart of our salvation and our Hope!

Resurrection! He is Risen

The story begins early on the first day of the week—what many refer to as “Day Eight” or the new creation. The women, who had prepared spices for Jesus’s body after His burial, approach the tomb expecting to honor and mourn. But what do they find? The stone rolled away, and the tomb empty.

Imagine their shock—these women, bound by grief and duty, come expecting to care for a body. Instead, they encounter an empty space—and then, heavenly messengers declare, "He is not here; He has risen!"

This is the turning point—a moment that shifts despair into joy. It's symbolic of new beginnings—God’s new creation (day eight) initiated through the resurrection. Nothing about this was accidental. The timing, the symbolism—it all points to God's divine plan unfolding at precisely the right moment.

The Angel’s Declaration and the Women’s Response

The angels’ words are profound: "Remember how He told you that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and on the third day rise again."

This reminder prompts the women—and us—to recall Jesus’s own words, His promises of resurrection. Despite their initial confusion and fear, their curiosity is awakened, and they leave overwhelmed with a mixture of astonishment and hope.

Yet, when they share the news with the disciples, their testimony seems unbelievable—"These words seemed like nonsense and they did not believe the women."

This moment reveals something important: believing in the resurrection can be difficult, even for those closest to Jesus. It challenges us to trust God's Word—even when it sounds unbelievable. Faith isn’t just about sight; it’s about trusting the truth that Jesus has risen.

The significance:

  • The resurrection isn’t just a fact for theologians; it’s the foundation of our hope.

  • God often works in ways that challenge our understanding, compelling us to trust Him more deeply.

Reflections and Application

This short passage packs a powerful punch: it reminds us that Jesus is alive, that hope overcomes despair, and that God's Word is trustworthy. The women’s discovery of the empty tomb signifies that death is not the end—victory is secure.

Here are a few ways to reflect and respond today:

  • Are you facing a situation of despair or disappointment? Remember the empty tomb—God’s power can bring new life.

  • Do you struggle to believe the promises of Scripture? Trust in the historical reality of the resurrection—it’s the foundation of our faith.

  • Have you shared the hope of Jesus’s victory? Like the women, we’re called to proclaim the good news.

About Me

Bible N3rd Pic.jpg

I started the fullness of my walk with Christ in 2019.  I can't believe how much it has changed my life and still how far I want to go.  I was never a "reader" but some chains fell off my life and I have spent so much of my time studying and learning.  It got to the point where I wanted to engage and share what I have made into a passion.  That is where this all started and I can't wait to see where God takes it!
