Can I Trust the Bible? Moving from History to Life Transformation

Over the last four weeks, we’ve built an ironclad case for the reliability of the Scriptures. We discovered that the Bible is supernaturally inspired by God, backed by an overwhelming mountain of manuscript evidence, carefully compiled into a trustworthy canon, and consistently verified by archaeology.
But this brings us to the ultimate destination of our journey.
It is entirely possible to know all the historical facts, understand all the theological terms, and defend the Bible against every skeptic on the internet, yet still miss the entire point of the book. The Bible was never meant to be treated like a dusty history textbook that we just pull off the shelf to win an argument.
If we truly believe everything we’ve uncovered over the last month, it forces us to make a life-altering choice. We have to move the Bible from a historical artifact we admire to a living authority of the Bible that we actually submit our daily lives to.
The Difference Between Informing and Transforming
The writer of Hebrews gives us a staggering description of what happens when we open the pages of Scripture. In Hebrews 4:12, he writes:
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
Notice the words used there: living, active, and piercing.
Other ancient books can inform you, but only the Bible can transform you. When you read a standard book, you are analyzing the text. But because the Bible is God-breathed, when you read the Bible, the text analyzes you. It cuts past our masks, our excuses, and our rationalizations, and it speaks directly to our thoughts, motives, and intentions.
If we only read the Bible for information, we are completely short-circuiting its power. The goal of studying Scripture is not just to know more about God; it is to be fundamentally changed by Him.
What Does It Practically Mean to Live Under Biblical Authority?
Living under the authority of the Bible means that when my opinions, my culture's trends, or my personal feelings clash with what God has spoken on the page, the page wins. Every single time.
It means letting Scripture dictate how we operate in our everyday choices:
How we handle our relationships: Forgiving those who hurt us, even when our feelings demand we hold a grudge (Ephesians 4:32).
How we handle our finances: Living with open-handed generosity, remembering that everything we have belongs to Yahweh anyway (Proverbs 3:9).
How we view our identity: Grounding our worth in who God says we are in Christ, rather than the shifting opinions of the world around us (Psalm 139).
When Jesus closed out His famous Sermon on the Mount, He said that the person who hears His words and actually does them is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. When the storms came, the house stood firm. But the person who hears the words and ignores them is like a foolish man building on sinking sand (Matthew 7:24-27).
The Grand Finale: Rest Your Life on the Rock
Church, your Bible is an unshakeable foundation. History has proven it. Archaeology has confirmed it. The manuscripts have verified it. But its ultimate proof is found in the way it changes human hearts.
Don't let this series simply be a collection of cool facts that fill your head. Let it give you the rock-solid confidence to open your Bible every single morning, drop your knees, and say, "Lord, speak, for your servant is listening."
The God who breathed these words, preserved them through the flames of history, and carved them into ancient stones is the exact same God who wants to guide your steps today. Trust His Word. Live its truth. Build your life on the rock.
