A Fun Bible Q&A: Exploring Faith, The Bible, and Life’s Big Questions
Hello everyone! Ryan here — your friendly Bible nerd. Today, I’m excited to share a special blog post that’s a little different from the usual — a spontaneous, fun Q&A session inspired by my podcast. I didn’t pre-screen these questions; instead, I pulled them randomly from a deck of talking point cards to keep things fresh, authentic, and insightful. Here is the podcast episode if you would like to hear it: https://biblen3rd.podbean.com/e/bible-n3rd-qa-using-talking-point-cards/
A Little Fun with TalkingPointCards.com
I’ve been using these "Talking Point" cards at Bible study and with friends — a fun way to spark deeper conversations about faith, life, and the world around us. The deck I have divides into four categories:
Faith Journey (Yellow)
World Around Us (Green)
Personal Beliefs (Blue)
Bible Truths (Red)
Today, I randomly drew questions from each category, and here are some of my thoughts:
My Favorite Book in the Bible?
Honestly, I love them all! Every time I read, I discover something new — whether it’s Psalms, the stories of King David, the letters of Paul, or the Gospels. The Bible’s depth is unmatched. Saint Jerome once said something to the effect that the scriptures are "shallow enough for a baby to come drink without fear of drowning and deep enough for theologians to swim without ever touching the bottom." That’s what makes it so captivating. My current favorites vary with the season or study — but I love listening to Scripture through podcasts and sermons, which keeps the Word alive throughout my day.
Why Does Suffering Exist?
Great question — perhaps the most profound. Suffering is one of the toughest mysteries. I think of it like going to the gym: it hurts, but it’s for growth. When a child falls from their bike, we see pain; yet, in God's infinite wisdom, suffering can serve a greater purpose. Sometimes, it’s beyond our understanding, but I trust that God uses even harm for good and that He’s present in our struggles. It’s a reminder that His view is eternal, and His knowledge surpasses ours.
Do You Believe in the Afterlife?
Absolutely. I believe there are two destinations: Heaven or Hell. This isn’t about God punishing us, but about the natural consequence of our relationship with Him. Hell, as C.S. Lewis pointed out, is "locked from the inside" — a place where people ultimately choose to exclude God. Heaven is where the presence of God dwells, and that’s where we’re headed by His grace.
What Does the Bread in the Lord’s Supper Represent?
This one’s a beautiful symbol of Jesus’ body — broken for our sins. Different Christian traditions interpret it differently, but at its core, it’s a reminder of His sacrifice and love. When I take the bread I will remind myself to crack or break it — remembering that His love held Him on the cross, and it’s His love that ultimately saves us. Communion unites believers in remembrance and gratitude for His ultimate sacrifice.
How Do You Interact with People of Other Faiths?
This is an essential question for Christians today. I believe in approaching others with curiosity rather than judgment. Asking questions like, "How did you come to believe that?" fosters understanding. We may not agree, but respectful dialogue opens hearts and minds. And as Tactics by Greg Koukl suggests, if tensions rise, remember — if anyone gets angry, both lose. The goal is love, grace, and understanding.
Who is a Person God Put Into Your Life for a Reason?
Without a doubt, my wife is one. Her influence has helped me see the world differently — her thoughtfulness, introverted strength, and her quiet love have shaped me. Life’s little surprises, like her unexpected directions while we drive, remind me that God often works through the ordinary to lead us toward growth and humility.
Faith in Jesus Christ — What Does It Mean to Believe?
To me, believing in Jesus isn’t just about knowing He existed or that He was a good teacher. It’s about trusting in who He is — the Son of God, our Savior, and the one who offers salvation. As John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” Faith involves trusting that His life, death, and resurrection are the foundation of our salvation. It’s a personal commitment — putting our hope in His finished work, not relying solely on our own efforts.
Wrapping Up
I hope you enjoyed this little Q&A session! It’s a fun way to reflect on our beliefs and explore big questions about God, Scripture, and life. If you haven’t tried using tools like talking point cards or just engaging in honest dialogue, I highly recommend it — it’s incredible how much you can learn about yourself and others when you approach these conversations with curiosity and grace.
