Hello everyone! I recently had the extraordinary privilege of visiting Israel— a trip that has been a lifelong dream and a profound spiritual experience. As someone passionate about the Bible and our Christian faith, walking through the very places where these sacred stories took place was both humbling and inspiring.
From the moment I set foot in Bethlehem, I was overwhelmed with awe. The Church of the Nativity, marking the birthplace of Jesus, is a place of incredible history and reverence. Standing beneath the small door and walking through the church where Christians have gathered for centuries to honor the Savior’s birth was a moment I’ll never forget. Close by, Shepherds Field offered another awe-inspiring site. As I entered the small dome commemorating the angels’ announcement to the shepherds, I was struck by how this humble location holds such significance in the story of Jesus’ birth. The interplay of light and the peaceful atmosphere made me feel connected to those ancient heavenly messages.
Journeying into Jerusalem, I visited the traditional site of the Last Supper, believed to be held in the upper room near Mount Zion. Walking in this space brought the Gospel stories to life — imagining Jesus sharing that final meal with His disciples, instituting communion, and preparing them for what was to come. Just below, I saw King David’s tomb, a reminder of the deep roots of faith and history embedded in this city.
My walk continued through the Mount of Olives, with a panoramic view of Jerusalem that took my breath away. The Garden of Gethsemane, with its ancient olive trees, was one of the most powerful experiences of the trip. Standing where Jesus likely prayed before His arrest, feeling the weight of that moment, made it all so real.
The biggest emotional impact was at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. To see, touch, and walk around the site believed to be where Jesus was crucified, buried, and rose again was beyond words. Walking through the different chapels and relics inside the church, I was reminded of the incredible sacrifice at the heart of our faith. Standing at the Golgotha site, I reflected on the immense love and grace that Jesus demonstrated. The sense of reverence and solemnity in that place touched my soul deeply.
Throughout this trip, I also explored other sites like the Garden of Gethsemane and the place where Jesus was presented before Pilate, contemplating the historical and archaeological evidence that supports these sacred locations. It’s inspiring to see the intersection of faith, history, and archaeology come alive.
Visiting these places wasn't just sightseeing — it was a powerful spiritual journey that strengthened my faith and gave me a new appreciation for the biblical stories we read and teach. It reminded me how much history and tradition are woven into our faith and how these physical locations serve as a testament to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I am incredibly thankful for everyone who supported me, spiritually and financially, in making this trip possible. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will treasure forever, and I look forward to returning someday.
If you’re considering a pilgrimage or want to learn more about these biblical sites, I wholeheartedly encourage you to go if you can. But even if you’re afar, I hope sharing this journey inspires you to deepen your faith, explore the Bible’s stories, and appreciate the incredible history behind our beliefs.
